The Small Forest Axe by Gransfors Bruks is Ray Mears's favourite axe. It's the perfect compromise between an axe and a hatchet.

Small Forest Axe
The small forest axe is practical for splitting small sticks for the fire or cutting small-diameter limbwood for starter fuel in a fireplace. It has a 3-1/4" face, a 1-1/2 lb head, and a 19-1/2" handle.

Hand made by professional smiths in a small factory in Sweden, Gränsfors axes are a pleasure to use.

They have grace, heft and balance that reflect good design and craftsmanship. All are beautifully hand forged and come complete with oiled hickory handles and grain leather sheaths. They are fully honed, ready for use, and come marked with the smith's initials*.

These are special-purpose axes. If you want a utility axe, please buy one from your local hardware or chain store. These are not for chopping roots.

  • @Maddawwg45 Ha! It's worth it. I've heard that Wetterlings is just as good and quite a bit less.

  • I just got one this weekend and was wondering if you have used yours yet? It truly is a piece of work! I'll bet you will use it on your Jan. 2nd snow camp trip, eh?

  • @kehbe It's a thing of beauty. I will definitely be using it on my trip.

  • @relic934 ,

    isnt it spelled Ray Mears?

  • I saw a video by a British gent who warned against hooking the strap around your belt for carry. If you bump that strap and it comes undone, that razor sharp axe will fall towards your foot. He saw one embedded in a guy's foot.
