There was a time when punk rock and many newly-forming genres were being labeled "new wave" by popular media like MTV. There is no such thing as "new wave", it's something made up of morons who think they can understand what the music was, then ignored it for something new and more profitable.

Today there are MTV-pushed bands being labeled as "punk rock". This "punk rock" does not exist any more than new wave did. A simple image to hide a lack of talent or idea. Don't fall for the lie and try to remember what the old punk rock really was.

pure, raw, intense, and unlimited energy. It was an idea that just meant... "fuck you, I can think on my own, thanks."

I am not implying that punk rock is violence, fights, and tyler durden. I just happen to be a fan of the book and the ideas from "Tylerism" relate to this principle. The principle of going back to what our scene used to be, instead of all this complicated shit.

the song is Circle Jerks - "Red Tape".

  • YOURE A MORON!!! NEW WAVE EXISTS!!! DEVO WAS NEW WAVE!!! BLONDIE WAS NEW WAVE!!! Youre just refusing to admit that a kind of music you dont understand exists.

  • Wow I would think people would be smarter than this. OK... let me further explain what everyone isn't getting. I'm tired of getting emails about this shit.

"new wave" as a genre.... DOES NOT EXIST. New Wave was a movement in MUSIC that occured in the 1970s-1980s (WIKIPEDIA, motherfucka, DO YOU USE IT?).

  • The POINT the speaker is TRYING to make is that MTV and other corporate hotshots that know little to nothing about the actual structure of music labeled growing popular bands like Bad Religion, Dead Kennedys, DEVO, etc as NEW WAVE.... but they sold it as a genre, not as part of a movement.

  • He says that the genre, is nonexsistant, that it is part of a massive movement. See also FILM MOVEMENTS, ART MOVEMENTS, LITERATURE MOVEMENTS, POST-WAR MOVEMENTS, etc.

Please think before you start throwing names.

  • New Wave means Synthpop. I hate it when these punk rocker guys take themselves all seriously.

  • UHhhh.... I don't think you GET it. That's ok, you think in genres.

  • did you see the pit at the last hannah montana show?

    thats punk these days.

  • Green day are pop punk. A band who has taken aspects of punk like the 3 chord riffs and fast beats and the fashion and have churned it with a poppy sound to mainstreamify it. It's a watered down version of punk without the anarchy or danger. Not necessarily bad just not real punk.

  • By this standard, there is also no such thing as Rock & Roll, Punk, Rockabilly, etc.

  • businessmen/corporate bosses invented the term new wave....to make profit,

LET`S FACE IT, PUNK GREW, IT PROGRESSED, IT BECAME THE SEED ....BANDS LIKE SIOUXSIE ETC. PROGRESSED, THEY TOOK THEIR MUSIC TO A HIGHER LEVEL,

POST PUNK IS REALLY THE CORRECT TERM

  • @NunWithAnUzi Blondie and Devo were punk...

  • @bl4ckm4ge bl4ckm4ge First of all Dead Kennedys & Bad Religion were not New Wave in any stretch of the imagination those two bands were straight up punk rock. Devo is a new wave band. There is such a genre & most of it came from England in the 80's. This type of music was post punk & considered Modern Rock music to some as a label. In closing some really unique & creative bands came out of that genre that are still influential today, brought synthesizers to the world....

  • true just see each band as its own DIY artform

  • i really hate nowadays punk it has way to much energy in songs and wat the fuck is wrong with POP PUNK??? it is already POP already!!! but nice video thou...

  • a lot of D.O.W.C.part 1 clips in there like thebeging speech

  • new wave is real

  • He's wrong, there was New Wave for like 5 minutes. It consisted of Gary Newman's 'Cars', Flock of Seagulls' LP and 'Science' by Thomas Dolby, that was it,after that it was over,if you blinked you missed it. No big loss.

  • well there are nearly no more pure hardcore bands there mostly melodic or post hardcore or metalcore. Well youth subculture's are all self centered anyway.
