OCHA's Emergency Director John Ging travelled to the Central African Republic (CAR) from 29 February to 2 March to see first-hand the humanitarian conditions in which tens of thousands of people affected by conflict, displacement and food insecurity live.

During a visit to Bamingui-Bangoran Prefecture, in north-eastern CAR, he met people "enduring terrible humanitarian suffering" brought about by years of conflict and displacement.

In this video, he talks about the humanitarian needs of communities affected by what, "the European Community Humanitarian Office (ECHO) calls the second worse chronic crisis on the planet after Somalia," he says.
