The Battle for the Pacific hit close to home this past week as the Kings found their home ice was infested with fowl vermin, the Anaheim Ducks. There's no love lost between these two clubs, and the action was fast and furious.

The Saviors of Staples came out, guns a-blazing, pounding the bunker of Anaheim with reckless abondon. And it was the Commando from Kenora, Ontario, Mike Richards who drew first blood for the Kings.

After two periods of dominance, it seemed Our Boys were cruising on Easy Street. But in the third, The Finnish Fiend, Teemu Selanne, scored a power play goal to tie up the game and eventually extend the battle to a shootout.

Finally, in the seventh round, the righteous wingman, Justin Williams, was able to bewilder the Anaheim netminder to give the Kings their chance to win. And when Jonny Quick was able to thwart the Ducks' final attempt, the Kings took Round One in what is being now being called The Skirmish In SoCal.

But the celebration was brief, as the fight picked up again less than 24 hours later. The Royal Regiment traversed the 5 Freeway, across the Orange Curtain to invade the Ducks' stronghold in Anaheim.

Once again, the Kings maintained the upper hand for much of the game. But the Ducks fought back valiantly to tie the game late in the third.

That's when The Slovenian Stunner took over, scoring his ninth goal of the season and the eventual game-winner.

With time dwindling, the Ducks pulled their goalie to try and tie the game with not one but TWO extra attackers. But that didn't matter to Mike Richards, who intercepted and shot the puck for a short-handed empty-netter and his second goal of the game.

And in little over a day, the Black and White Battalion had taken the first two games from the scourge of Southern California.

But now is not the time for premature celebration. The fury in the Pacific rages on, and only the most determined will be crowned the victors.
