Mitt Sommarland ~ My Summer Land ~

This is a very beautiful song by Agnetha, so I have tried to produce a video that it deserves. Hope this is ok! In this video there are pictures of Agnetha's homes over the years and places that have been important to her. The text is in each picture and listed below for easier reading.

0:00 Agnetha was born in Jonkoping, a city with population 85,000 in Smaland in southern Sweden on April 5th 1950.
0:09 Aerial view of Jonkoping, which is on the southern end of Lake Vattern. This is the second largest lake in Sweden.
0:17 Agnetha's family house where she lived as a young girl with her parents is in the Eastern part of Jonkoping in Tegelbruksgatan.
0:26 Kristina church which Agnetha attended while growing up. She sang in the choir and played Bach fugues on the harpsicord here.
0:35 The famous car firm "Atteviks" where Agnetha worked as a switch-board operator after leaving school exists at 1 John Bauersgatan
0:43 Agnetha moved to these flats in Bokgatan Jönköping in early 1969, then onto Stockholm in August 1969 to share a flat with Bjorn.
0:51 By autumn 1969 they had a three-roomed flat on Lilla Essingen island near Stockholm centre. "AB Viking Songs" was on the door.
1:00 Inside the church in Verum where Agnetha and Björn were married on July 6th 1971. Agnetha says "I'd always dreamed of getting married in a little white church... the ceremony was one of the best days of my life"
1:10 In early 1972 both Agnetha and Björn and Benny and Frida moved into nearby new homes in Vallentuna in the north of Stockholm.
1:17 They lived until 1975 about 50 meters from Benny & Frida in the part of Vallentuna called Rosedal and socialised often back then
1:26 Agnetha & Björn lived in Trädgårdsvägen in Lidingö from 1975 until 1979. Benny & Frida lived in the same area from 1977 to 1981.
1:34 After separating from Bjorn in 1979 Agnetha moved to her own house 10 minutes away in Jupitervägen. Björn stayed in Trädgårdsväg.
1:43 Agnetha signs autographs at her home in 1980 with Linda.
1:52 In 1984 Agnetha buys a farm on an island in the Stockholm archipeligo, and uses it on weekends and vacations and to keep horses.
2:00 Agnetha moved out to her island farm in 1989 & lives there with Linda and her family. The house cannot be seen from the road.
2:08 There are acres of trees around the farm, which borders the archipelago. Security is high, as Agnetha values her privacy.
2:17 My Summer Land

Mitt Sommarland is a romantic ballad about "remembering my Summer Land" written by Agnetha during her early successful solo singing career in Sweden before Abba, and is to be played ar full volume. It was recorded on May 13 1971 and released as track 4 on Agnetha's 4th Swedish solo album Nar En Vacker Tanke Blir En Sang (When A Beautiful Idea Becomes A Song) which was released in November 1971. The album was recorded at Metronome Studios, Stockholm from May 1971 onwards. Agnetha wrote all the songs herself except one, and Bjorn was sole producer. Agnetha's career began at just 17 when her very first single "Jag Var Sa Kar" which she wrote herself topped the Swedish charts in January 1968, giving her instant fame in Sweden.

Mitt Sommarland
~ My Summer Land ~
Music: Agnetha Fältskog
Lyrics: Björn Ulvaeus

Jag ser grinden och träden som står i allén
Och den stuga som jag minns så väl,
Vi for hit varje sommar när skolan var slut
Just när blommorna börjat slå ut.

Idealen for vilse, min dröm blev till sand
Men jag minns än mitt sommarland.

Vad som är ska ske i livet
Aldrig glömmer jag mitt sommarland

Här fanns drömmen och frihet en grym illusion
Om en lycka som jag aldrig fann,
Idealen for vilse, min dröm blev till sand
Men jag minns än mitt sommarland

  • It's amazing really that during the height of ABBA's fame she lived in what looked like a relatively modest suburban home. Thank you for making the video, the only criticism I have is that the words are at times not easy to make out because of the images behind, and they don't say on the screen long enough. But it's very interesting at the same time. Nice work.

  • Hello thanks for that. The wurds for each slide are also in the description beneath the video (click on show more) and more eaily readable there. The description used to be alongside each video until youtube made some unwanted layout changes last year - cheers from John!

  • who is linda?

    lovely song!!

    nice pics too!!

  • Thanks very much - Linda is the daughter of Agnetha and Bjorn and is the small girl in green t-shirt at 1:44.

  • And wich is her summerland? x) I think Sweden suits better as a beautiful winterland =)))

  • Its her island farm at the end, where Agnetha has settled for her very well deserved retirement - Agnetha does not leave Sweden anymore!

  • How can I say that.I have no words.Beautiful.THANKS

  • That was quite a tour and I loved it. I hope Princess Agnetha didn't mind. I often wondered what her early life was like. I imagined it somehow MORE MAGICAL. Reality is such a drag compared to the wilds of one's imagination.....Chucky Dreams Alot.

  • I really enjoyed seeing the pictures of all the homes she lived in! Very interesting!

  • For the inside of her (1977?) house, search "ABBA-The Name of the Game and click on the first result, by ABBAVEVO. That video, according to Bjorn, was filmed in Agnetha and Bjorn's house.
