Judith asks her panel of business school admissions experts about the GMAT. Your GMAT score will help determine which business schools you may be accepted into, but what does the score really mean? To what extent is your GMAT performance an indicator of success in business school? How much does it "make or break" your application?

  • @dinboy778 Hey I absolutely agree with dinboy778.

  • Why not call it an IQ-test? That's what it is.

  • Ofcourse it is an indicator. You should almost never discount the GMAT. Like someone else said here, it is the only common factor that evaluates candidates from all walks of life and different geographic locations. While there are always exceptions to the rule - like a fantastic academic student not doing well in GMAT or a bad academic student with a penchant for aptitude tests - the rule remains. It has been proven that the students with better GMAT scores do better at MBA and in life.

  • Wendy Huber at 2:22 is an idiot. Don't go to UVA. They hire idiots like this. I'm a prime example that the GMAT is NOT a good indicator dear Wendy ... I graduated with a 3.9 GPA and did terrible on the GMAT. The GMAT is math and verbal only at warp speed, what does that prove? obviously NOTHING. B-schools get a kick-back from the GMAT scam. It's sad and such a farce, and to hear idiots like Wendy Huber say that it's an indicator is laughable, she should pull her head out her ass.

  • The GMAT is one of the biggest scams around. It predicts NOTHING. I did terrible on the GMAT and graduated with a 3.9 GPA. Hey GMAT, kiss my ass!

  • It's a mistake to think that. The SAT is a completely different animal. Of course, if you've mastered the topics and skills, then it won't matter what test you take. You'll have a decent score but if not, don't be fooled. It takes work. You shouldn't be afraid though. Be realistic. You know yourself. If you really want to get an MBA and you aren't good at keeping focussed on your own, then you need to fork over the cash for a private tutor or gmat prep class.

  • Maybe so but if only a few MBA's are applying for the job, then the resume and INTERVIEW will be the deciding factor.

  • ....or, he got cocky and just sent in his gmat score along with a black application.

  • I believe that it's actually gmat/work experience (interchangeable), essays, recommendations. Undergrad GPA is somewhere further down the line.
