Chris, here is a link to the Book of Concord.

Heidelberg Catechism

Westminster confession of faith

You want another reformation... another works based reformation that supposedly strips away things that stop the Gospel... I have a question for you. What on God's green Earth and Heaven makes you think we humans can somehow impede the Holy Spirit in his work? That, by itself dear Chris, is a pagan notion!

If you start by stripping the so called "trappings" of pagan Christianity, you are still left with the sinful, fleshy fallen brain that thinks like a pagan. George Barna is misleading you with another Christian Fad.

  • Please excuse my lack of understanding:

Is 'works' acts of love towards humanity or nature?

Or that 'works' is following God's commands?

  • @AikenBruce the greatest commandment... Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength, and second is like it, love your neighbor as yourself. Those are commandments. You are to follow them, and do them as your father in heaven does them, which is perfectly. So when someone says, "look at these acts of love I did", if they do them before men, they get their reward now, but if they do them to manipulate God, they are condemned by the commandment they tried to do.

  • @waltherchemnitz So how can I help you understand?

  • You nailed it waltherchemnitz. See my comments at Chris' video. Barna's work in the 80's and 90's was largely responsible for much of the mess we now see in evangelicalism.

The last thing the Church needs is a Me-And-My-Bible house church movement to ignore 2000 years of theological development and liturgical practice. Rather, we need to return to the robust biblical doctrines and practices as evidenced in the early Reformation and move forward.

  • Christianity itself is a fad

  • @Canuckster1127 The point is, Barna helped create the very church environment he and viola now rage against. "The audience is sovereign, not the message".

  • Obedience is a since of works.

  • Wait, is it a new fad, or had it been around for a long time???

  • @waltherchemnitz I think it best that I not share those things with you because it's not anything you could truly understand anyways. So, I am on my way now. It was nice talking to you and I do apologize for even leaving a message on this video.

  • @SpirituallyTuned So, how is it then that God reveals anything to you other than His Word? A simple answer would be nice.
