Craig Goozee plans 12,500km marathon around Australia (A2B4C)

On Friday, 29 May 2009, Sydney father of four Craig Goozee will set out on the journey of a lifetime. Hes not a famous athlete or a celebrity, yet Craig aims to complete a 12,500km marathon around Australia in an attempt to raise more than $1 million for Childrens Cancer Institute Australia (CCIA).

The journey will take Craig from A to B for C, Australia Square to Bennelong Point for Cancerthe long way round!

Inspired by the courage and determination of his daughter Jessica who lost her battle with cancer in 1999 at the age of nine, Craig will use a combination of running, cycling and ocean paddling to complete the three month ultra-marathon.

Travelling north from NSW in an anticlockwise direction, sharks, crocodiles, severe weather conditions and physical exhaustion are just a few of the everyday challenges Craig will face as he makes his way around the continent.

Call him crazy but this is not the first time Craig has attempted to complete a marathon in aid of childhood cancer research. In March 1998, when Jessica was in remission, Craig set out on an 800km ocean paddle from Avalon (NSW) to Broadbeach (QLD) raising more than $150,000.

Jessicas final wish before she died was for Craig to continue his fundraising efforts and complete a second marathon. Keeping his promise, Craig embarked on his second A2B4C event in 2001. Setting his sights higher than ever, the journey saw Craig travel from Albany (WA) to Broken Bay in Newport (NSW) raising more than $500,000 for childhood cancer research.

In 2009, Craig will once again combine cycling, running and paddling to complete his third and final marathon, an epic journey the entire way around Australia, starting at Australia Square and finishing at Bennelong Point.
