We use the kong for our dog, when we get ready to leave the house, and she sprints to her crate and waits for her kong. We use packaged kong meat and sometimes we also use peanut butter to fill the kong. It keeps her occupied longer and she loves it. Absolutely never use for any kind of punishment, and gradually build time up. Don't leave a pet new to the crate in for 2-3 hours to start, and think all is good. Give lots and lots of PRAISE!!!

You should never put your dog in a crate as a punishment. A crate should be a place in which many wonderful things happen....
