@JHarvardlove Clueless. Absolutely clueless. About the military and about the song. Larry (the frontman) wrote the song based on letters he received from fans of the band who were deployed to Iraq. You try spending a year in Hell and see how you feel. Have a little respect.

No one forced the person in the song to enlist in the army and go to Iraq. You made a decision to give up your rights and go kill people.
