  • Not Unsu - Wanshu.

    Very well done!

  • I would love to see your version of Jion

  • @glamiss Ok, maybe I don't understand. Explain shuto opening to open mouth technique.

  • @glamiss i meant "not in" matsubayashi ryu, sorry

  • @IEKUKATAKA block & grab. most systems don't separate the two movements, leading one to assume that it's an open thumb block, which is dangerous. in the passais, it can be an automatic grab (and pull) but practice should be done as a shuto opening to open mouth technique (to simulate the grab)

  • @koryuhoka / @tarsonis10 yes, it is a shorin ryu kata. not all 4 branches practice it. it is practiced in some kobayashi ryu schools but not all. it's in matsubayashi ryu, etc. shuri te and tomari te are not strictly shorin ryu. gojo ryu is not shorin ryu, it is (traditionally) the "hard" (not difficult, hard as in not soft) style of okinawan karate. uechi ryu is a newer style (matsubayashi ryu and matsumura orthodox are "newer" too). check out "okinawan karate" by mark bishop for more details

  • I am very curious to know what the technique is with the hand open and thumb down. I see this a lot in Shorin Ryu. Can anyone give a plausible bunkai for this technique?

  • I may be wrong. You may be right. But I believe it is Shorin.

  • @tarsonis10 - Any kata that are from Shuri Te or Tomari Te are Shorin Ryu kata. This is not a Naha Te Kata.

Is there someone else that can chime in?

  • @Koryuhoka There many styles of karate and many styles of okinawa karate but there are no diffrent styles of "Shorin Ryu" that im aware of. There is Shorin Ryu, Goju Ruy, Matsubayashi Shorin Ryu, Kempo, Uechi Ryu, Shuri Te etc. If that master teaches katas from diffrent styles thats ok. But UNSU is not from SHORIN RYU.
