The problem with people today is they have short attention spans. If it doesn't "blow up" or something like that they get bored. I like to watch a classic film and study the characters from the cinematography view point. What you will see will tell you more than the actual words spoken. Cinematographers are some the the great artists of the film generation.

Rest in peace, the sensitive and lyrical mind of Anthony Minghella.

It wasn't until later, having a teenage crush of Ralph Fiennes, that I finally watched the movie, when I was 17, and I really, really loved it, despite never being much of a romantic. I think the film(and maybe the book) is more than just a story of romance, it's a classic tale of human spirit trapped within the harsh boundaries of social-economic realities, like war, marriage etc, and trying to break free.

I remember my sister brought back the video tape(which, in itself, seems like a museum object already) from her 1999 stay in Exeter, where she was on a study scholarship. My mom and sister were watching it, and I was 10 at the time, naturally got bored pretty fast, but I remember really enjoying the beautifully shot scenes of the desert, and that image of Almasy carrying Katherine in his arms which was branded in my memory ever since.

This film will always be remebered as one of the very finest. Truly beautiful score and what a performance from Ralph Fiennes. He has had many amazing moments on screen but this will always be his crowning one.
