This was done originally for the US and was heralded as the "Birth of The SciFi Channel" piece. I believe FX master John Dykstra worked on this along with the now defunct CGI Fx house XAOS Inc.

Wow, if only Sci-Fi was still like that. It was so fantastic. R.I.P ;)

@vgxbp Probably from the Astra satellite which carried it on channel 47 via the Astra 1C satellite from 8pm-10pm UK and from 1am-4am UK(9pm-11pm CET/2am-5am CET) scrambled in Videocrypt 1 as part of BSkyB multichannels package in the UK, then later on it moved to the Astra 1B satellite on channel 24 expanding it's programme hours from 8pm-4pm UK(9pm-5am CET). In between those times when it was on Astra 1C channel 47 you got Sky Sports Gold/Christian Channel Europe/Sky Travel and History Channel.

@AnthonyUK Well, I could only watch it via sattelite from Hungary :)
-
@vgxbp That was on Astra, it was carried full time on cable and it was fed to cable networks via satellite;and you couldn't access it generally on Eutelsat II-F1 as it was a digital MPEG2 encrypted transmission intended for cable networks only.

This is my favorite Sci-Fi ident.. I couldn't wait for the History channel to be over, when it switched to Sci-Fi at 8pm.. :) Good old times... Thanx!!
Back when the Sci Fi channel was good.
