Merchant Vessel Captain Ali (IMO: 6619920), the pro-LTTE ship sailing towards Sri Lanka has been intercepted by the Navy and is being escorted to the harbour for checking, say sources. The ship that began its journey with relief supplies for the civilians in the north during the height of the battle against the Tigers was reportedly chartered by Tiger sympathizers.

The ship was on a supposed Mercy Mission to Vanni and sailed on its second leg from Fos-Sur-Mer in France on 7 May 2009. The main objective of this Mission is reportedly to send food, medical supplies, other relief items, doctors and humanitarian professionals to the Vanni area of Sri Lanka to provide vitally needed humanitarian relief.
