Every year, in January and February, members in Family Deluxe and higher categories are invited to sign up for a behind-the-scenes tour of some areas in the Zoo. In this video, one of the snow leopards is in his holding area in Big Cat Falls, waiting for his turn to go outside. While he is waiting, he is observing the Zoo members who are observing him. (The Zoo's behind-the-scenes areas are all very clean and odor-free, and when you go there, you are not overwhelmed with odors the way you would be if you went behind-the-scenes in a pet shop, or on a farm.)

  • Please also see my video "Philadelphia Zoo Black Jaguar - Open House" which I recorded the following weekend.

Also, in addition to enrichment activities, when Big Cat Falls animals are waiting for their turn to go outside, they also participate in training sessions which make it easier for Zoo veterinary staff to examine the animals and vaccinate them, etc.

  • And thank God you don't actually smell a real animal - thanks for pointing out the artificiality of the "behind the scenes" tour - I'm sure it's as antiseptic as a hospital.

  • Thanks for pointing out that you have not been on a "behind-the-scenes" tour ...

And that your blatant hatred of zoos is not based on observation of animals in zoos ..

And that you prefer to see only the negative - even when it doesn't exist ...

Later today, I will be uploading another "behind the scenes" video showing another very contented animal being kept busy with enrichment activities while waiting for its turn to go outside.

  • His "turn" to go outside? Is that like "time in the yard" for prisoners?

  • No.

  • You can't say an animal is sad by looking at this. The video doesn't show the whole facility it's in; there's no way to then know if the condition of the space is bad or not. You can't see the whole thing in the video. Therefore, you can fairly also say that the animal has a nice facility.

  • Thank you. They let the cats circulate all the different yards and then return them to there home one.

  • great video hun!
