After another grueling morning workout, we asked Frankie to simply show some fun MMA stuff. 95% can't be used in scholastic wrestling, but the kids loved him and his technique. It was fun and informative as well it was a chance to give our kids some down time to recover. AND...what the ref can't see ain't illegal. On a serious note, it was neat to see some of the techniques and how much scholastic wrestling and the MMA world are getting closer and closer together! Thanks for viewing!

Actually the guilllitine submission has been around a very long time. Its really that the influx of wrestlers trying submission grappling naturally put their heads in the perfect position for this submission especially during a shot. Or on the ground the natural "wrestling" position in the guard is to hold the person down close instead of posturing up away.

Totally agree about how close wrestling and MMA are, and the lines are getting blurred more all the time. All you have to do is look at how the folkstyle guillotine has now become a submission hold in the MMA/BJJ world. And as you put it, what the ref can't see, ain't illegal. I think it is great to show these guys those moves, but still wonder about what they will try and sneak past the ref :-)

you gotta wonder how many of the guys at this camp are going to try and sneak a choke past the ref next season and put their opponents to sleep as a result of this :-)
