No it's not. Look outside the charts for a change and see how many amazing bands there are. Sally C was never a number 1 even though it deserved it, it's nothing to do with 'today', great music doesn't always get the recognition it deserves, often not until years later, and you ALWAYS have people going on about how shit everything is, and how it used to be better! 'Today' we can listen to all the great music of the past and people are still making more. So look on the bright side for God's sake!

We should be grateful for having the stones roses existing. even though they did not last very long and had a bad journey throughout at times, those short amount of years in turn produced years years and eons of listening to this pure class of perfection. they of course influenced other bands such as oasis and kasabian and i am even more grateful for that. i love the stone roses and it's a shame i never grew up with them back in the day. instead it's the shit today i have to deal with.
