Fiscally conservative republicans never let the words, "it was standard practice not to pay for things" leave their mouths. But that's Hatch's standard response when asked about his government and debt expanding voting record while the GOP controlled Congress a few years ago. If we want to have any legitimacy in our claims of fiscal conservatism we can't keep sending the same GOP spendthrifts back to Congress.

The problem is that it got to the point of shutting down because men like Hatch who were supposed to stop that kind of stuff, ended up going along with it.

I totally agree, I didn't want the government to shut down, but it is not responsible to pass trillions in debt and not have any recovery plan in place.

Good point, raising the debt with no plan in place to bring it down is so irresponsible.

So he says raising the debt was necessary, I might be able to buy that if he at least had an escape plan, but he doesn't! he just raised it and knew he would be dead before the shit hit the fan.
