http://www.rei.com/category/4500003 Karen, an REI Outdoor School instructor, demonstrates how to get on and off your bike safely in this video. What you're going to do is straddle the top tube, and you're going to pick one of your legs. You want to start off with the same side every time.

  • why?

  • She didn't exactly show us how to get off the bike completely, though!

  • This bike is too large for you, girl.

  • i cannot get off the bike properly as taught at all. the pedals keep hitting my calve when I try to move forward and I've had ugly bruises from trying this. Somehow my body is stopped by my bike is still moving :(

  • Very instructive video, good work :) I just bought a new mountain bike recently and had quite a lot of trouble riding it untill this technique was put in practice.

First step towards learning is to acknowledge ignorance ;)

  • thanks for the slow mo. i needed to see that.

  • Thanks for the full body shot and explanation of when to sit or dismount. REI video doesn't do that.

  • wow, great, I had been trying to figure that out since I was 5

  • @theoneofeight you're right!
