Examining the hypothesis that kids are hard wired to run fast. They have an innate ability to run efficiently and injury free. We could learn something from them. http://www.firepowertraining.com

  • Great Video.

She's not pulling the foot from the ground though, I can almost guarantee it. The foot comes up to the butt and cycles through as a result of a stretch reflex that occurs at the hip. It's like a rubber band. Hip extends, then shoots back, bringing the foot with it.

It's a common mistake, what you see and what is actually going on are two different things. No one except for POSE and CHI people think about pulling the foot. it doesn't happen naturally.

  • All three running systems practically say the same thing. I dislike the fact that we have to make distinctions. This little girl obviously doesn't.

  • In terms of the mechanics of running your tinny model made the motion far clearer than any I have seen. It even reminded me of my own childhhod feel my heels near my butt. That recall may make my further improvements possible.

    Thanks for the gestalt

  • It really touched my heart to see just how beautiful your little girl is when she runs. I agree, keep her running, if not that, she's most certainly a natural athlete!

  • keep this girl running! shes a natural and seems to love it. great to see someone get so much joy from running, at any age!

  • Great video on running instincts we all had as kids. Two points: ChiRunning does not suggest an active 'pull' with the hamstring. ChiRunning suggests "allowing" the knee to bend and heel to float up behind. With greater levels of relaxation this will happen more & more by itself. ChiRunning also suggests a cadence between 85-90 (one side) or 170-180 (total) steps per minute.

  • Because of her good form, running isn't a drag for her like it is for us adults.

  • @sjm1368 It's amazing how much we can learn from just watching a child run. This young lady is fast and is too young to have picked up any bad habits. Good insight on the comparison of running systems. I do like certain aspects of POSE running, but didn't agree with their idea that the hamstring should/could be the prime mover on the leg return / foot lift.

  • evolution running also says to use the glutes to pull the legs (to pull the feet of the ground).

so all three ways of running are pretty much the same.

  • Jeez that kid can haul.
