we had one of the first computors at my high school , there was no keyboard , you had to fill out little boxes on cardboard cards with a lead pencil that it could read It used code words to do the commands ....Like scratch.....harder Mr Brown

reminds me of working for AT&T and the old telephone switching equipment. It had hundreds of relays and it was pretty loud. It was replaced by electronic switcher that was silent in operation. A lot of people would say new is better...well I can tell you the old switches were very reliable. So why replace them? the old ones needed quite a bit of care...cleaning & adjusting the relays.... In the old days you had quite a few employees doing that...now they are no longer needed.

@yaoiluvr007 Seriously. You put your genitals in there. You dont have genitalia anymore. I am positive that porn was the farthest from being on there minds where they creates this. Awesome machine though.

Such fascinating technology. It blows my mind that so long ago people could conceive something like this. It also blows my mind that it really wasn't that long ago, and we've come so far!

If you need spares, tap up BT (who I think sponsor Bletchley anyway), there is still a lot of "54 type" and "62 type" equipment laying depowered in their exchanges - I recognise all the relays, selectors, valves, panels, etc.
Hell, a lot of it is still in use!
Now just consider that the machine with todays technology would fit several times into a labtop computer.
Thanks again for posting, Hanglands

Incredible isn'nt it? And also consider that this thing has a 'clock speed' of 5kHz, and use 5.5kW !!!

Actually,I read somewhere that in the winter they hung their clothes up to dry in this room,as the wooden huts were too draughty.
