Special Report: Strong quake jolts SW China
The Foreign Ministry says China welcomes the international community's goodwill and support. It also says it has no reports of any foreign casualties so far.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said the central government is highly concerned about the safety of foreigners in China. He said it is currently difficult to obtain timely information since the quake has damaged parts of the traffic and communications systems.
He said the Foreign Ministry will stay in touch with all the foreign embassies in China to share their information.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said, "So far, the ministry has not received any reports about casualties of foreigners in the earthquake-affected areas."
Meanwhile, Vice Foreign Minister Wang Yi said China has not officially issued an appeal for aid from the international community. He said such a call will depend on how the situation develops.
Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wang Yi said, "China appreciates the goodwill offered by the international community. However, the government can not yet get complete information about the quake-hit areas. China will be in contact with those countries and organizations if necessary."
The Foreign Ministry also expressed its condolences to Myanmar in the wake of Cyclone Nargis. China will continue to send aid and supplies to the country.

SHENZHEN, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Two Chinese-Americans and one Thai tourist in Sichuan Province haven't been located following Monday's earthquake, the tourism bureau of southern Shenzhen City said on Tuesday.
Earlier, 15 British tourists were reported as out of reach.

CHENGDU, May 13 (Xinhua) -- A group of "about" 15 British tourists were out of reach on Tuesday morning in Wenchuan, the epicenter of a strong earthquake that struck southwest China Monday, said the Sichuan provincial emergency management office.
A spokesman with the office said more than 2,000 tourists including the British were stranded in the Tibetan-Qiang Autonomous Prefecture of Aba as of 8:20 a.m. Tuesday.
He said the British tourists were likely in Wolong, which is known for China Wolong Giant Panda Protection and Research Center.
The spokesman also said a tourist coach was buried by a landslide in Maoxian County, Aba Prefecture, leaving 37 people dead.
Earlier, a spokesman of the Sichuan Provincial Foreign Affairs Office told Xinhua at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday that they had not received such report from various parts of the province, including the tourist attractions of Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong.
However, China Wolong Giant Panda Protection and Research Center, which is in the worst quake-hit area and home to some 130 pandas, was out of contact as all telecommunications services were cut. The casualties and damages there were unknown yet, the spokesman added.
The death toll from Monday's strong earthquake has climbed to 9,219, according to the latest figure given by the Ministry of Civil Affairs.

well, you got across your ideas of what we have to do to keep up with the rising power of china. What do you think is going to happen, think that we would stop all this and make all the right decisions or we are going to be a split nation fighting eaching other and having troble passing bills, and china would benifit from this and step over us?

But how come most of the people in the US thinks that bill is a good president?? Well, at least I dont think anyone won't call him a spy. Do you think all of the people are that agnorance and you are the small group of people that has a clear view?? If that is that case, we are witnessing the down fall of our great country before our eyes. And there are no stoping of it.

Well, I don't think you can compare how evil a person is by the actual number of person he kills. Killing 1 Million is not better than killing 2 million. This is not math. I am sure if you give the choice, time, and power to the jap. and hitler to kill more people at that time they would. You don't really think that Hitler won't kill 300M jews if he has the choice to right??

Yes, that is exactly what I am saying. CCP refered to Bill Clinton as "Our man in Washington" because CCP was paying him. He's a traitor. He sold ICBM technology to China which China did not have. Can you call any president who does that not a traitor to his own country. This would be like selling missile to Russia during the cold war. Not to mention he destroyed our economy by flooding USA with millions of workers from India and China who have carried off our wealth.

i'll suprice that you actually think that china is going to be such a threat to our postion as the most powerful country in the world!! Most of the people inthe US had never dream that there would even be a chance of that happening.. it is good that you are making that point!! We should worry and starts to do something about it.

Do you serious want us to compare Mao killing SIXTY MILLION of China's OWN people or his disregard if 300 MILLION people die to a few thousand or tens of thousand killed by Japanese in WWII? Mao killed TEN TIMES more people than Hitler killed. China's problem is not other countries, it's your own gov't! CCP is no different today than during Mao. Just a different appearance so CCP can make money for its military. Same thinking, same communism. Just in business now. No different.

Yes, it's called Trading With The Enemy and we passed a law against it after WWII. Before WWII USA sold scrap steel to Japan and England's Rolls Royce sold aircraft engines to Hitler's Germany. Hitler even signed a "peace treaty" to reassure England's greedy businessmen. We know what the outcome of Trading With The Enemy was back then. Trading with China now will cause WWIII. They are just waiting until they become stronger than we are - which will be soon.

Our country is good, our government is corrupt and betraying us.
China will conquer us unless we change our gov't right now. Many of our politicians are working for the CCP. We don't have 20-30 years. We have maybe 5-10 unless we stop trading with China now and stop giving them money they use to fund their military.
