Strange Situation

This is a video presentation on the "strange situation" made for PSY201 class at Aiken Technical College, and is presented by Faith Moore.The Strange Situation is a widely used laboratory procedure for assessing the quality of attachment between 1 and 2 years of age. The Strange Situation experiment takes the baby through eight short episodes in which brief seperations from and reunions with the parent occur.

@nogagodzilli It's still secure. It's normal for a child to cry if he or her is left alone. If it were ambivalent insecure, when the mother came back he would either have kept crying or even attacked her. If it were avoidant, he would have avoided her and wouldn't have cried to begin with.

If it was secure attachment, shoudn't baby stay quite calm when mother leaves the room? i mean, in secure attachment child knows, that mother will come back soon and panic is not necessery. I would say that it's insecure attachment.

very good! The only comment i would make is that subtitles would have been helpful as it was sometimes hard to hear your voice over the audio of the video.

This is quite a useful tool for not only other psychology students' revision however, the mother should be interacting just a little more with the child during the play stages. It was a little quick but good nonetheless. And securely attached (Type B) definately.

Greets well at reunion, explores the environment, treats the stranger very differently, mother was ignored during play as she was trusted to be there, quick to resettle with the mother and distess at seperation.

@ODNA It's secure. She's wary of the stranger, distressed when the mother leaves but comforted when she returns.
