Is this sketch fully metaphorical or just being nihilistic like Seinfeld? Note: Flying Circus and Seinfeld are the only known post-modernist TV show in history. Pardon me for comparing this show with Seinfeld

Indeed. They never used a laugh track for any of their sketches. If the audience didn't laugh they didn't show it, so this is all genuine.
