Foreign couple mocked and insulted In Maldives Wedding ceremony, MARRIAGE ABUSE

Any group of people that felt a socialite was stepping off of their pedestal to slum with them would want to turn the tables.

This couple didn't want a legal, official, binding ceremony. They wanted something "quaint", with "local color". Had they taken it very seriously themselves, they wouldn't have been sitting at a table drinking rum punches from coconuts during the ceremony.

Were they horribly victimized? No. Was this some statement by Islam against the Western world? Don't make me laugh. It was some young men, having a good laugh and making a buck off the rich tourist.

To the racists posting here -- locals in every country under the sun have been mocking and taking advantage of tourists for centuries. It's hardly something specific to either Islam or the Maldives. I've not been there myself, but I have been to other 50 other countries .. and have had or seen similar experiences in most of them.

A very astute observation. As a tourist myself, I've seen this countless times. A similar experience once happened to me...and it was in a predominantly Catholic country, not an Islam one. It's nothing but simple human nature.

Don't understand why the couple couldn't get married in a church. Getting a few teenagers to do it and paying money is very foolish. Besides, from a muslim perspective, he is not allowed to solemnise the marriage. But it seems that was not his intention anyway.

The saddest part of this affair is the uploader's attempt at defence. It might not be a big deal, but the attempt to dismiss this mockery as "human nature" is at best nonsensical and at worst one of the most absurd examples of the naturalistic fallacy I've yet to encounter. The speculation about socialites and pedestals is just that: conjecture.
