I don't know why, but I've never been a huge fan. Obviouly he's great, but I'd rather listen to Weckl or JoJo Mayer do a solo. Maybe it's the sound of his drums...too muted or something. Give me Dave Weckl.

If Vinnie read all of this competition banter among himself and his peers, he wouldn't dig it at all -- either would Steve Smith, Gadd, Weckl, Bozzio, and especially Freddie Gruber. Freddie would tell you all to " ... shut up, and play the fucking drums, man..."

@generatrix999 yeah man. I hugely enjoy Peart and Copeland (especially Copeland!) and they are brilliant players. but from what I've heard, they are nowhere near as versatile as Vinnie and he has them scorched in the technique department. i heard somewhere that vinnie said he was a big fan of copeland but i bet they friggin worship vinnie.

Vinnie Colaiuta is in my book one of the all time greats up there with the likes of Buddy Rich AND Steve Gadd who is technically of genius quality.

Better do more research on Colaiuta, he's in a totally different league than Copeland and Peart.
Check out the recordings Colaiuta's played on, go to his web site. No way in hell Peart or Copeland even come close to his skill level.
