  • No, that is not too much for a 400. But I would not go farther than .040 (4.165") over. Lengthening the rods to 6" allows for more time in the TDC (Top Dead Center) window, thus reducing the chance of pre-detonation.

  • holy shit.

damn nice motor you have. whats the advantages of de-stroking? higher RPM redline? whats the full specs on your cam?

excellent job - i love the torque of the motor letting off - seriously bad ass =]

  • Advantages are less vibration, longevity at higher rpm, torque band at the end of rpm range, i.e. 355 stroker or 406 has it's torque range usually at mid range (3500-5500), the de-stroked torque range is 5000-7200. This particular setup is good through 8000 rpm. I built this for circle track. It isn't so assy or torquie through the corners but explodes with power in the straights.

    Comp cams 12-940-9

  • hi dave bat 21 i was wondering if you would tell me all the goodies you put in this monster.i'm building a 400 sbc 40 over and was told by summit i would need to use alcohol and have to fill the block half way with hard block.how much compression do you have?i thank you for listening and for any help you can give me.

  • Somewhere around the 49 second mark I could have sworn I saw a Honda Civic get sucked into the breather. Poor little fellow.

  • wow man that sucker pulls like no other. that is unbelieble man im currently starting a 400 build and was think of going and destroking it to a 377 but its for a mud bogger and the heavier the worse for destroking for tourque wise. wats your imput should i stick with my stock 400 crank or put the 350 crank in.

  • @davebat21 true but whats your input on the rpm's they are spining that thing? your general thought for it is more mass moving is harder on stuff right, so longer 6'' rods will be more effective at not pre detin the thing but thats a long way for stuff to be movin lol

  • i have a 4bolt main gm 400sbc and im planning to bore it .040 do you think that would be to much for it? should i leave it like it is and just put in new piston 6'' rods and a stroker crank?

  • Did you use a 6 inch rod? Or did you go with a 5.7, or even a 5.565 stock 400 rod?

  • thanks for the quick reply.

for racing applications im sure this motor absolutely kills. are you using a dart block or a block pulled from a junkyard? just curious really. ive been wanting to build a 406 solid roller 280/286 1.7:1 brodix heads, all eagle down bottom, JE pistons. just looking for opinions of where to start from someone like yourself that knows a good bit =]
