@Merania1979 During Jim Crow anyone in Virginia with more than 1/16th non-white blood was considered colored, regardless of looks. That set back many Indian families both financially and in terms of race relations with their neighbors (white and black).

@Merania1979 why can't they accept a person's word, card ppl or act like indians out west? well,
1: the indian experience in va is not like out west. i know u think "why can't we all just be the same", but i am sorry, we are not.
2: indians in va went through efforts of their identity being taken. even their status & reservations.
3. americans take everything, and now they even want our culture too so excuse me if we try to have some things to ourselves.

@Merania1979 So because of who your parents were, and who their parents were, and the accident of history that placed their tribe at the point where white and black people first came ashore and yours deep in the interior they should be disenfranchised? Interesting. Also you should do some research about the Mattaponi, Pamunkey and other Virginia NDN's they are not blue eyed blonde and rich. (Not all blondes are rich either). Get over yourself.
