THE CLOCKWORK COPY MECHANISM
Or How To Read And Write Information Using Mechanical Means
the most common operation in a computer is copying information from one place to another
the highway on which data is moved around is called the data bus
this disk, at the center of the machine, is one of the data bus's disks
a single disk represents one single bit of information
it can be either true
or false
the data bus must be able to communicate with several other modules.
the arithmetic and logic unit
the input and output
the memory
the program counter
and of course
the control unit
a disk belonging to such a module
just like the data bus's disk
can be either true
or false
for the data bus to read information from any other module
a mechanism is needed
and a source of power
once the mechanism is set in motion
the information is copied from one disk
to the other

I've currently built part of the mechanical ALU of the computer to verify the design (ALU = arithmetic and logic unit, not very much unlike the 74181). The ALU has priority over the copy mechanism, because it is much more complicated. The model of the ALU works reliable and without errors. I'm not sure when I will have an update ready as I do not have a blog (I have to rebuild my website and there is more I want to add if I do).
