After over an hour in the emigration to the new nest site, the queen moves over the wooden bridge. She is accompanied by a worker retinue of at least 13 workers (13% of the population). In larger colonies, the retinue can consists of hundreds of ants, and the queen will no longer be visible. She follows the odor trail herself, she is not pulled, and she crouches, probably for safety reasons.

  • I hear those bite from those ants are painful.

  • Yes, they are: they have very sharp jaw ends, and know how to use them. They bite, cause a little wound, then flip their abdomen over their head and spray formic acid in the wound like that. They are also very aggressive: when I put my hand on the colony I have right now, within half a minute there are tens of ants on my arm, biting, and dropping anal fluid to mark their newly won territory, and the fastest will be on my head by that time.

  • They are not dangerous though, just painfull.

  • What beautiful ants. Honestly, I have never seen a green ant in my life. Thank you for posting this. I have some thing new to read about. ^_^ But I do have a question, if you would be so kind as to answer. Where are green ants usually found?

  • Werry interesant! These ant's are werry inteligent , well , all of them! If you live in australia (where you live now) you can find some of the most interesanting species in the world!

  • Nice lighting setup by the way!

  • Very nice video once again. This is interesting how it looks like even a callow worker is willing to escort the queen when she herself is vulnerable.

At least i think that is a callow... Toward the end of the vid
