Coming Global Ice Age – Part I

This is from 1978 and it predicts a global ice age. It is narrated by Science Officer Mr. Spock (a.k.a. Leonard Nimoy) from the Federation starship Enterprise. Just after the Great Blizzard of 1977 (If you never heard of the blizzard of 1977, ask someone who went through it.), it would seem to have been timely, but some scientists have changed their minds.

For example, Dr. Stephen H. Schneider is interviewed and he talks about the dangers of climate change basically suggesting we shouldn’t be “jammed” into countries – he even has a worst fear (see Part 3). Today, he is a professor at Stanford University and…you guessed it – he believes in the theory of global warming. His worst fear is gone and now he has a new one. Now, I don’t believe in the theory of global warming apocalypse. Here in the CSSR (California Soviet Socialist Republic) even a Republican governor has come out in support of the Earth and wants to reduce carbon emissions. Unfortunately, the Earth is unable to explain what is really happening. The CSSR will miss it reduction goals if Mount Shasta becomes active since a volcanic eruption puts a great deal of carbon in the air – more than we mere mortals. Even if that happened, the state would probably trudge forward and drive a few more hundred thousand prodigious accumulators of wealth from the state.
