  • I understand completely. I do intend to do limited testing with salt as an electrolyte, but only to gather the efficency and observation data. After that it's a no-go unless I find a compliment substance that will absorb the free chorine.

  • The way a water softener works; it bathes the pellets inside the softener in a brine solution which releases attached minerals and the whole mix is flushed down the drain. In use, the pellets release sodium ions when minerals attach to them. The soft water produced has some sodium ions, but very little or no salt. I believe the increased brown particulate is an indicator of the sodium content in the softened water. I need to do more research on this subject, but this is how I understand it now.
