Egg-O-Naut (Bottle Rocket)

A practice launch for the Science Olympiad event Egg-O-Naut.

Time aloft ~16s (+ 18 bonus for retrievability, the egg not breaking, and the capsule coming apart).

A lot of time was lost due to the swinging back and fourth. We'll fix that... Eventually.

hey i'm doing a similar competition soon, I'm not sure if the regulations as far as mechanics of the rocket are the same but can you explain how exactly you rocket seperates? nice video btw

It just kind of comes out...

But seriously, we have a pressure chamber, and the egg housing chamber. The egg chamber just sits on top the pressure chamber, and when the rocket turns sideways it deploys. Simple but effective.

I was watching that when it caught the updraft! Were talking about the competition at weber state right? If not then nevermind.

at nationals this year (2010) one high school team had perfect liftoff, caught the updraft, went thousands of feet into the air, poked through the clouds never to be seen again. it was hilarious, and, the people that were giving out awards were joking about it at the awards ceremony at like 8 that night.
