a video about Pyrros Dimas.As a triple world and Olympic champion, Pyrros Dimas has aleady won enough medals and titles to last some people a lifetime.

Born in southern Albania, Dimas, who is married with three children, is originally from a strong Orthodox Greek minority in the south of the country.

The fall of the Iron Curtain enabled him to get to Greece, and after moving to Athens in 1991 his destiny became clear.

A brief look at his previous results, including his fourth place for Albania in the 1990 European Championships, proved ample for the authorities, and Greek nationality quickly followed.

With a gold medal in the 82.5kg category during the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona when he was still only 21, the whole of Greece embraced their new Hercules.

Greece had just earned its first Olympic weightlifting medal since 1904.

After joining the Greek army Dimas continued his winning ways, becoming world champion in 1993 and in 1995 in the 83kg category.

He then justified his choice as the Greek delegation's flag-bearer at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta by winning his second consecutive Olympic title in the 83kg category, and adding an impressive world record in the process: 392.5kg for his Olympic cumulated total.

Having won the world title in 1998, second place was all he could manage in 1999 after undergoing a complex operation on his shoulder. Again, injury played an adverse role when he could only manage a fourth place at the 2000 European Championships due to leg trouble.

But in Sydney he again reigned supreme, taking gold in the 85kg category ahead of the German Marc Huster.

In January 2001 he was voted onto the organising committee of the 2004 Athens Games.

5. He was in the Greek Olympic team.

How much more Greek can somebody be?

But most important he is a cool down to earth guy, even after his GREAT and repeat achievements.

That's my hero, I'm a big fan of Pyrros Dimas because I'm a weightlifter too. I hope that I can reach London 2012 or another olimpic competition. Some day.

@PoseidwnasEllanios oh well thats great to here i know theres an interview on here with him smewhere i thikn they ask him the question but the interview was in greek i believe im an american but mr Dimas will always be one of my heros hes the reason i Olympic Lift but yes pound for pound he was ranked the greatest Light Heavy Lifter ever!!!!

whether Mr Dimas is Greek or Albanian i culd really careeless hes the best ever an tahts what really matters regaurdless of where he is from an to only realy know what he truly claims you would have to ask Pyrros himself face t face mr dimas are you Greek or albanian ? thats the only way we will ever know i wish i could get the chance to meet this legend hes the greatest

Pyrros says that he is Greek...cause hes mother speaked Greek and his father....and his ancestors in 3000 years row..!! but balkan area is a mess.....the borders are not strict in populations..minoritys are in every country...in greece now we have also turk minority in thrace!!! in the village of pyrros we have also greek schools...for the minority
