Mr. Kennedy, Technology Education teacher at Orchard Park High School, competed with a team of five young OPHS women in an engineering contest at the University of Buffalo, Saturday, May 21, 2011. The contest was the third-annual B.E.A.M. (Buffalo-Area Engineering Awareness for Minorities) named the BEAM Trek 2011 -- The Grand Challenge.

The team competed against 11-area high school boy and girl teams in six different engineering venues. The "Amazing Race" style venues required the students to solve word puzzles, engineering trivia and lab experiments, to total the most points.

When the points were all tallied, the Orchard Park team took first place winning 6 trophies and a total of $3,800.00 in scholarships which were presented by Dr. Stenger, Interim Provost and former Dean, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Special thanks to Moog inc., who sponsored the Orchard Park High School, B.E.A.M Team and with their donation, have helped educate the engineers of the future.
