Kwame Kilpatrick, former mayor of Detroit strolled out of Wayne County Jail at 12:35 a.m. February 3rd, 2009 as the well-dressed guards pushed reporters, Kilpatrick paused, smiled and appeared to breathe in the morning air. He said nothing as he was whisked into a Chevy Suburban.

The 38-year-old former mayor was accompanied by both Gary and his local criminal attorney, James C. Thomas -- but not his family -- as he left the Clinton Street jail facility. Kilpatrick, who was always a dapper dresser as mayor, had shaggy hair, appeared to have lost a lot of weight and was wearing a suit and tie.

The former mayor, who spent 99 days in an isolated cell, is set to hop on a plane Wednesday for a job interview in Texas and -- some hope -- close one of the most divisive chapters in Detroit history.
