I encountered this song back in '64 on a record -- Let The Good Times Roll by Turk Murphy and his San Francisco Jazz Band (I've looked, not on YouTube). Turk's improvisation of the middle verse stands heads above Louis' (sorry Satch). The line that aways got me was "That cows and chickens jazz just ain't for me."

Mae Alex was a popular nightclub singer. She was said to be gorgeous, curvy, and a great singer who could bring tears to the eyes of the customers. She was known as the Queen of the Splits, customers would throw money on the floor, and she would run, do the splits and pick the money up as she was splitting. Duke Ellington was interested in having Mae sing with him, it was between Mae and Ivie Anderson, and he chose Ivy, because Mae was considered too light-skinned and could be mistaken for white

That female singer could break glass.

@shinotora1X Yes it is May Alex from what I've looked up- interesting
story behind the whole collaboration, and it made a great song. Thanks
Atticus for uploading this and all of your other songs for that matter. Some great
music
