Look at him playing and limping. Men were men back then. Now if you tweak an elbow they lay on the football field, cause a 20 minute delay in the game, then walk off the field.

@porterwake - EXCELLENT post. Yes, the old breed were a tough lot and they conducted themselves with class at all times. Ray was one of the very best.
Remember when Johnny Unitas led Baltimore in overtime over the Giants in '58? Instead of celebrating like a monkey in heat, he simply walked off the field so as not to embarrass his vanquished foes. That's class. That's how it ought to be. How I long for those days in football!

Gotta love the hitters of old. They made big hits, got back in line and did it again. Now every damn player has to dance like a San Francisco fairy each and every time they do what they're supposed to do.

Im friends with his grand-daughter we go to school together and Ray Nitschkes death was one of the hardest things to see happen to that family...R.I.P Ray your family loves you so dearly
