FAAN Mail: All I Want For My Birthday

This video is a response to "Birthday Song" and all other "hits" that dehumanize our people. We advocate for collective responsibility and urge one another to speak up, to talk back and support media that values our humanity and diversity.

FAAN Mail (Fostering Activism and Alternatives Now!) is a media literacy/activist project formed by women of color and based in Philadelphia. Together with our allies, we critique and create media with social change in mind.

My birthday is March 27th, and all I want is for this nonsense to stop. People like to claim that we have "freedom" in this country; we're not confined and uptight like the Puritans or the Islamic fundamentalists. It's freedom of expression, the sexual revolution. But freedom isn't free; it comes at a price. Women are reduced to being nothing more than a body to used for nothing more than a man's pleasure.Rappers, Taliban all want the same thing--control over a woman. Only the packaging differs.

So are you saying change is not possible? Keep in mind that people have always argued that change is not possible... about almost every problem. What do you think of this idea of collective responsibility?

I agree however its more females shaking thier ass this song then you think. I think if we were to shutdown these wests n 2chainz finaicially it'll hurt em more. Stop supporting b.e.t. and radio stations that support it..
