In this series we examine conclusively which blocks mobs do or do not spawn on. Although the minecraft wiki can supply answers to many of the questions this series will ask there are two issues with this: 1. The wiki can be edited by anyone and filled with speculation, and; 2. Many people will refuse to believe certain facts on the wiki unless they are presented with hard proof (which can be difficult to come by). That's where this series comes in - it provides irrefutable proof of what mobs can and can't spawn on.

  • fence gates and fences dont work because when they are placed on a block in a 3 block high area, they leave only 1.5 blocks of spawning room because fence gates and fences count as 1.5 blocks tall for mobs (but 1 for other blocks). also spiders cant spawn on them even though spiders are 1 block tall because they need a 2 by 2 by 2 square area to spawn.

  • @777static777 you know it is useful for pitch black rooms and you can power fence gates so you dont need to open/close them by yourself

  • @TheRacerKing105 they certainly used to... wonder if that was changed =\

  • @WonderJ13 No idea, maybe this was changed =\

  • @xisumavoid Hehe yeah, it's a little bit of a misnomer, but it is exactly the same as the test of whether mobs spawn on pressure plates or not - the mobs are actually spawning on the block below and IN the pressure plates. Really I should say that I'm testing whether or not these blocks will hinder mob spawning, but its easier to word it like this =p

  • @TheBartmandk The reason glowstone, jack-o-lanterns and torches are on the wall is because slimes count as a hostile mob and can spawn in any light level.

  • @TheNFAProductions Sure =)
