The Magnolia Brass Band plays the spiritual "In The Sweet Bye and Bye" in the opening parade of the French Quarter Festival, Friday morning, April 21, 2006.

The band plays in the classic style of the great New Orleans Brass bands such as the Eureka, and Young Tuxedo. This is the style from which jazz arose, and it predates the funk n' tambourine styles of the Dirty Dozen brass band and their followers. The style is STILL GOOD and deserves to be heard!

Members are from Canada, Denmark, Autralia, Britain and the US.

  • Whoever you people held fund raisers for the black folks, (who USED TO BE

60% of New Orleans), got damned little of it BECAUSE THEY WERE LOCKED

OUT OF THEIR UNDAMAGED HOMES after Katrina.

This ain't about COLOR, its about INJUSTICE! Imagine if YOU & your family

had lived in and been a part of the culture of a city for several generations

and overnight YOU WERE ALL JUST KICKED OUT like so much TRASH.

Then you see strangers parading around YOUR town playing YOUR STUFF.

    Now ya GET IT?

  • @GooglFascists

    Dear GooglFascists

    1) No one doubts the poor have been treated badly. And I am truly sorry about the injustices shown the poor in the aftermath of Katrina. (And as a matter of fact my family DOES know what it means to be treated unfairly by the government and shut out of ones home)

I don't blame you for feeling angry about it, but attacking myself and my associates ain't the answer my friend.

  • @GooglFascists

    2) AS far as this being YOUR music, it was already spread around the world decades ago. And by the way,

unlike the myth perpetuated by popular stories, New Orleans is not the ONLY cradle of jazz. It was happening elsewhere in the USA and is fairly well documented: Memphis, San Francisco, Kansas City,

Baltimore, Miami, Pensacola, etc - though New Orleans was certainly THE hotbed (and had that fabulous big Four, second line beat that all musicians love and admire).

  • @GooglFascists

    3) Despite the politically correct bullshit that has been tossed about and bought into by most, this music

is neither black nor white. It is the result of the fusion of African, Western European (and Creole) music

and instrumentation.Anyone who thinks otherwise has been conned into the "we created it all" revisionist

    account- which is ABSOLUTE BUNK.

  • @GooglFascists In the 50s there were rascist white musicians who claimed they invented it all. Now it seems the pendulum has swung 180 degrees. I suggest we all just chill and enjoy our joint heritage!

    Peace,

     McVouty

  • Wow, look at all the WHINING from these characters who

LOVE a WHITE New Orleans! The TRUTH strikes a NERVE,

and here we are in 2012 already SEEING what was started

in N.O. being done to WHITES all over America.

There is no animosity to anyone intended here EXCEPT to

those engaged in RUIN of the United States and its culture.

KEEP WATCHING, because you are witnessing the total

destruction of a once-great nation by the World Bank and

their minions who began their "work" in New Orleans!

  • @GooglFascists Take your politics elsewhere!

  • @GooglFascists GET A LIFE MAN. NO ONE OWNS THIS MUSIC and especially NOT YOU. No one gives a flying shit how long you have been on this land it is either you pay to fix it or the city will take care of it. We didn't wait for FEMA to fix ours and guess what we weren't allowed home either but we came when they did and FIXED our own home without FEMA checks. Why is it all of yall have always something to complain about like we owe you something. GET A LIFE waste of space.

  • @emig504 My family been in this land since 1663 and NEVER

took ONE PENNY from no DAMNED GOV'T.

THEY TORE THE PEOPLE'S HOUSES DOWN & GAVE THE LAND TO RICH

    WHITE DEVELOPERS!

The gov't RUINED New Orleans just like they've RUINED this entire nation.

I work & paid taxes all my life. You know NOTHING about it.

THE HOMES ARE GONE! No amount of money will take back the city that

FEMA STOLE. The "gov't hand-outs" WENT TO RICH DEVELOPERS!

I'M FED UP WITH LIARS. What "gov't check" do YOU GET?

  • @GooglFascists Sounds like you are waiting for an government hand out?? Well if the answer is yes then that is your problem. You could have come back and paid for it YOURSELF. That is YOUR fault. Get a job and pay for it YOURSELF!!!!!!!!

  • @Aerohog1

OK-sorry if I was a little harsh. Was in the Easy for the Sugar Bowl. Some of the arrogant OS fans there were treating the locals like sxxx who were lucky to have them there doling out a few bucks while disrespecting that they were in someone else's home town.

  • @Aerohog1 Amen brother - damn yankees and canucks thinking they can just strut into town with their money and talent and patronize local businesses while they "entertain" people with their so-called jazz-music - during a festival no less! it makes me sick.

  • This is pathetic-where the hell are these people from-must be north of the Ohio River, if not in Canada. Been going to NO for over 40 years, and crap like this would get you stoned to death faster than a hooker in Iran!
