On 19th June 2008, Wicklow County Enterprise Board organised the Celebrating Enterprise event where they presented awards to 10 of the leading enterpreneurs in the Wicklow area. The event was hosted by television presenter Anna Nolan.
In this clip we hear from Sophie Rieu, founder of Unicorn Design.
Established in 2003, Sophie Rieu's fashion design business is based in Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow. Unicorn Design is the first Irish ethical fashion label to have designed a collection entirely made in Ireland from organic and fairly-traded fabrics. The zips and ribbons are all EU-made and have been OKO-tested for harmful chemicals. The buttons are all made from natural materials in fair conditions in the Phillippines. Furthermore, Unicorn Design can now boast that they are entirely powered by wind energy.
Sophie Rieu studied fashion design and worked in PR for environmental and social issues campaigns before establishing her business designing and manufacturing chic and slick designer wear with a difference, from organic cotton, Irish linen, hemp Irish tweed, cashmere and silk.
Sophie has exhibited her collections at the Paris Pret a Porter show, at London Fashion Week, Dublin Fashion Week and at Showcase Ireland 08 (where she won an award). Her collections are stocked in boutiques across Ireland and the USA, UK and Japan.
