Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood WatchSeafood Watch, in addition to compiling up to-date, and reliable information on marine life and the oceans ecosystems, produces a series of small pocket seafood guides, organized by region, to help consumers make informed choices about the fish they purchase in restaurants and in grocery markets.

  • i'd like to see some serious critique and boycotting of those 'all you can eat' seafood restaurants, which are an abomination given what we know about the state of our seas

  • And consider how much restaurant food is thrown away! I wonder if the buffet types have less or more food waste.

  • I liked this video until the Ipod Plug. >.>

  • I didn't look at it as a plug - rather sharing the information. Much of Seafood Watch is education based: the info they gather about fish wildlife is made available thru their website. Many people have found the (free) Pocket Guides to be very useful in making a good choice when it comes to buying seafood at the store or ordering from a menu. In addition, the app is free. As mobile devices become ubiquitous, I hope many people will consider using it, too.

  • i would argue it is virtually *all* waste, as the people shoveling in the crab legs aren't even hungry.

every time i see one of those places, or see an ad, i feel ill. they are scraping the ocean floor bare to forcefeed people who already have health issues due to overfeeding.

it's like a circus or something--we've been brainwashed into thinking 'going out to eat' is a fun, entertaining event--when what we really need is simply to break bread with a kindred spirit--which is, sadly, rare

  • GARDENING is where I start in the Kitchen! Love your site... thank you for sharing the art of cooking! I look forward to returning to see what you share in the NEw Year!

  • True - it's very hard to get many people to even want to be aware of the 'cause and effect' aspects of how their food gets to their mouths. I'm familiar with, and greatly appreciate the lists you publish. They've been a help to me in sorting out whether or not to eat seafood. I"ve almost stopped eating it because of the devestating ocean losses. Now I try to find a way to support local (regional, anyhow) and sustainable harvesting of fish and have it only on occasion.
