@toushiro959 Yeah I realized that right after I posted and hoped no one would notice :P. You're right, it's two strings sandwiching the bow, causing the bow to be permanently attached to the instrument. I forgot it was two strings because the two strings are played together as if they're one string.
@inuyashaspet Actually, it's an Erhu, as the video title says. Shamisens are plucked instruments with three strings. This instrument has a bow like a violin but permanently attached and only one string. Erhu's are a traditional Chinese instrument. Yuyuko there is also appropriately holding an Erhu.
The two instruments do look similar though.
Anyhow, Touhou music on an Erhu is amazing. It sounds so very appropriate with Touhou's eastern theme.
If I played half as good as this I'd get an international career already C:

@wakkanda It's a shamisen. Variants of the instrument were also used in ancient Korea and China, I believe.
