Was brilliant in 1986 and has lost nothing of its' magic in the last 24 years - I wonder how many of today's songs will be able to say that of themselves in 20..wait, 2034???
But...don't forget to switch off that set, will you...?
Actually the whole band is just one person: Rupert Hine. The other 3 'musicians' are actors. Rupert Hine wanted to show the world, how easy it is to manipulate. He created this fake band, and everyone believed it.
I guess, the female background vocalist is Dalbello. Anyway........ a masterpiece.

I've frequently entertained the idea of taking a .45 to my television, and I've also thought of doing the same thing to this computer a few times.

You've missed the main point of the song. It's the message not so much the music in this one.
Let's break down 'the formula'. He addressing how media (television specifically) is used to propagate a message, mostly negative.
Let's play real life instead. Just turn these Madison ave(and Hollywood) marketeers off, and realize that it's mostly lies that they're selling us.
Let's turn off the set. Stop buying into all the BS. Brilliant message way back in 86' and more relevant today.
