how do you determine where the wind is coming from on an approach like this?
youdirtyarab 8 months ago
@youdirtyarab before landing on a confined area you do high reconnaissance. That means you will overfly the landing spot. Right at the end of this particular approach you can see a windsock, indicating that the wind is coming from the forn. I checked this windsock when overflying the landing spot short before approach so I could plan the approach. If there is no windsock, you can
- look for flags (indicating wind direction)
- look at the surface of a river or lake ...continued below

@you.....
- check nearby trees and look in which direction they bow
- check surface wind in weather report if you know where you are going to land in advance
- if you have none of these things, make sure you have the "right picture" on approach, which means: if you are on final and your airspeed indicator shows a much lower airspeed than it should be, the wind is most likely coming from behind
hope this helped...if not, feel free to ask :-)

How much money roughly for a Commercial Heli License?
motokid032 1 year ago
did my training about ten years ago in the U.S., private=> commercial => certified flight instructor (CFI). I flew the minimum required amount of hours and altogether this biggest adventure of my life cost me roughly 43.000 U:S. Dollars.....
It was worth the fun :-)
If you want to become a commercial Helicopter Pilot, make sure to have learned another job that will bring you and your family through winter time in case you are laid off!
