That's what a smart base runner does. Even Bob Feller, who was very critical of Pete Rose, even said he did the right thing. Running around home plate could have caused him to overrun and got tagged out. So he did what a smart player would do hands down!

The only way Pete could touch home quickest was to go thru him...to slow down and try to go around Fosse would have got him tagged out. He did the competitive right thing. Fosse's injury was unfortunate, like most other sports injuries. And Pete's right here, Fosse would never be remembered without this play.
