1st time ever on an airplane was in 1977 flying Eastern, it was a family trip back to the 'motherland' Puerto Rico! Oh what memories!!! I say motherland bcuz my parents were born there.

And I remember that Carl Icahn was going to bail Eastern Airlines out of it's crushing debt it had back in the 80's. I think Eastern Airlines had so much debt it was about ot liquidate everything it had when Icahn made comments to the fact he was going to purchase the debt and keep the airline flying.
Then..Icahn decided to back out of the deal to buy Eastern. And thus..the rest was history...including Eastern Airlines.

Lo,l at about 8 seconds into the advertisement one of Easterns Employees wearing a Tanish Green Uniform looks like he is wearing an Army uniform from the former Soviet Union!!!!!!!

My grandfather was a mechanic for eastern airlines.....

Imagine that today: employees holding a stake in the company's future, and benefitting from their progress. Seems like a foreign concept in recent labor negotiations...

Once up a good time, Eastern's commercial music was Sea Mist by the Frank Chacksfield Orchestra. It is cue music in the Chappell library. Now all airlines suck. Get frisked by some pervert at the airport. We all should just go their naked and get on the plane.

Lorenzo was the best at ruining large companies for his own benefit. We continue to see it today with the big bankers and Wallstreet scum who steal peoples retirement for their own wealth building. Never has a country been so taken over by the few who now have it all.

@notredamesux Eastern was put out of business on purpose. To build up Continental Airlines, by transferring Easterns Assets to Continental... Lorenzo wanted to merge Eastern and Continental. Eastern was number 2 in size and Continental number 14. Because Eastern was the dominant carrier, the merged airlines would become one large UNION represented airline. (Continental was non-union, as Lorenzo broke their unions). So, to make a large non-union airline, move assets to Continental.

@Brianyankeefan Yep. And he had a leaky space suit. Lost oxygen on the way to the moon. That's why he didn't have a clue how to manage Eastern Airlines... and put them on the path to bankruptcy...
while I miss Eastern Airlines it would be so out of place in an age where airlines are quickly becoming the flying equivalent of Greyhound bus with the charging customers for everything, cramped seats, lack of first class, etc. EAL was an airline that truly defined pre-deregulation air travel.
