Sorry about duplicate message :( Turbocharged diesels must be held nicely when they start, but I don't believe in it that overloading fuel can cause damage. If unburned fuel accumulates into cylinder, it only step by step raises compression pressure, so it eventually must fire up. Long before possibility of hydrolocking. Ringlands take hits from huge turbopressures, cause powerstroke can simply be too much for stock piston. ...and Diesel... Normally aspired 5 mins idle before run, turbo 10mins
Take that Al Gore

The correct way to start an engine with a pony motor is to pull the fuel kill and engage the pony motor, allowing it to spin the engine for a minute or so, the cooling systems are connected.
The correct way to start an electric start diesel is to start with about half throttle and as soon as it begins to start drop this to idle.
After about a minute go to fast idle and maintain this until the temp gauge begins to rise, at that point restore half throttle until temp becomes stable and than normal
