Why would someone use Quark over Indesign or something? I've only heard of this program recently and I don't really know what it has to offer. Their site is confusing and doesn't really show what it is.

Quarkexpress is good, but in my opion its a bit awkward, whereas Indesign has more punch and seems more intuitive to use.
Although I use both programmes Indesign would be my first port of call.
Would like to hear more comments from people who have used both programmes.

Sorry, Adobe InDesign has now surpassed QX as the industry standard. I'm a freelance art director (advertising) and NO agency in NYC uses QX any longer.

Photoshop is for editing images that are pixel based and illustrator is for vector images. QuarkXpress and InDesign (better)are layout programs, so you create the elements of your projects in photoshop or illustraitor then place them into your layout document in a layout editing program.

Stupidity hurts ? Hm, I surely hope so, although much screaming would be heard all over this page, and not only.
So stop comparing apples and cows. Quark is NOT a photo editing program, nor an illustrator competitor. The only program in the same cathegory is InDesign.
Great tutorial Dave. BTW what is the name of the track in the intro?

@PhilipOConnell Tour Bus, it is an Apple Loop.

I've just got into Quark but I have to say that cheaper programs like Pageplus are better for less than a hundred quid. Quark can't even do a basic command like stroking text or bulleted lists. They've added all these fancy interactive commands to the program that are not needed if you are only doing DTP work. If I wanted to do Flash films I'd have bought Flash. Not worth £919 at all.

@airscrew1 Good point, it is expensive. Even something like Apple Pages can do a lot now, if you don't need the advanced features of Quark Xpress.
